Fatehpur Sikri - The Abandoned City

This was one of our favorite places - it is literally an abandoned city. The ruler built this whole new city. The only problem was they could not get water. Because of that, they abandoned the city. It is built out of solid red stand stone- it is not brick with sand stone overlay. There is no way to really describe the enormous size of this place.

I like stairs :)
see the elephant face?

The photos above and below are of an area that historians debate as to the use. It might have been a market or the royal stables.

This is the tomb for the religious leader that predicted the favorite wife would have a baby.
