qutub minar

After Eric dropped Ashley off at the airport, we decided to visit a couple of places in Delhi. Below is the Qutub Minar. I don't know a lot of the history, but it is the tallest brick minaret in the world. We have really enjoyed all of the architectural and historical sites. This one was fascinating because it seems such a hodgepodge. Instead of being built out of large pieces of sandstone, this seems to be built out of small blocks that were then put together. They don't seem to be put together with any type of order- this is especially evident in the free standing columns.
text once again in Arabic.
remodeling- notice the scaffolding is bamboo
This is part of the minaret. Beautiful!

ok, I like arches and light and this gave me both :)

see? there seems to be no order to the way blocks are installed.

once again - hodgepodge
the columns show it most

the son of the builder of the minaret was planning to build a larger one. They ended up going to war and didn't complete it, but this is a section of the base. It would have been much, much taller.
